In all likelihood, the MacBook is probably fine since the seller is willing to meet at an Apple store. It's an expensive purchase and it's always best to know as much as possible before meeting. It's not Kijiji you should be worried about but rather the sellers. There are some shade people on Kijiji/CraigsList/LetGo selling knock off phones as an example. I bought a Note 3 for what I thought was a deal, but not a steal, only for it to be a cheap knockoff that wouldnt charge the battery more than 30 minutes of use. Be aware, ask lots of questions, be thorough, especially with big ticket items, and most important, if the seller looks shady, walk away!
If he did it once, he'll do it again and probably has done it in the past. Legal please. That's the risk you take when you do private sales like this. They are all final sales and you don't get a warranty or receipt. You could have gone out of your way to make sure the phone indeed worked with your carrier but instead you want to go out of your way to punish someone for something you are also at fault for?

Also check the history of the seller by doing your own research. But as i said. Meet in person in a very public place and bring a friend - apple does not track stolen machines, you are welcome to ask if it is but that is up to you, so you can sleep better at night. Also do not give any personal information to seller. I have sold through Kijiji in the past. Yes it can get annoying - with people being disrespectful on what they think reality is. ( especially with electronics ) not so much with furniture it is great but then it brings up the question of thieves posing as buyers too.
When you buy privately you run the risk of buying something that doesn't work properly that risk is weighed by the cost of the item and you voluntarily took that risk to get a good deal. Stop bothering the person and go to pacific mall and get it unlocked for 40 bucks, not that big a deal!!!! Nov 25th, 2013 10:28 amIf I buy something from someone on kijiji I do my own due diligence to make sure it's working, I wouldn't dream of calling them back asking for a refund are you out of your mind.I would be embarrassed!!! You are buying privately this isn't Walmart if you want returns buy your shyt from the store plain and simple. It will probably have an EFI password if it's employer-owned which can be checked by booting the MacBook while holding down the option key. The MDM and DEP software will probably kick in when you try to remove or install software or add/remove users. I'm not sure how far the Genius is willing to go when checking out the MacBook as their help is limited to hardware or Apple software AFAIK. How pissed off would your parents be if you were scammed? How about if you were robbed? Refurbs come and go on Apple's website, so checking back would get you what you wanted. More importantly, work this out with your parents--and check the free student iPod and printer threads for what else Apple offers. What will you do if the computer fails in a day or a week?

If you don't have a pretty good idea of what the machine and system are like, you are jumping into a lottery. Even with an honest seller you could have a problem the next day.instead of deciding which model you would like, find something you can easily afford.

Nov 25th, 2013 12:12 pmBecause all sales on Kijiji are final (no refund/exchange). Check when you buy, after that you are on your own. I thought that was common sense by this point, this is a private sale. THERE IS NO RETURN POLICY Just because it is a private sale does not mean the seller can lie or misrepresent the product.

Aug 21st, 2018 8:05 am Thanks for the great tips! Now I just need to figure out how to check the MacBook for MDM.
