This lets us streamline our Audio Level Setting procedure like never before. Simply set the software 'Transmit' audio controls as described in the SignaLink manual, and then adjust the SignaLink's front panel 'TX' control for the desired RF power level. Setting of the RX Level is even easier, as this is done completely by the SignaLink front panel 'RX' control. There are no software 'Recording' controls to adjust! • Convenient Front Panel Controls - You can now easily adjust your TX Audio, RX Audio and Transmit Delay without having to open the SignaLink case. This lets you optimize your Transmit Audio (RF Power), Receive Audio level ('waterfall drive'), and Transmit 'Hang Time' delay 'on the fly'!

Interesting that you had some luck with the PL2303 for PTT. For the most part, the Prolific chips are some of the more troublesome chipsets for OS X (poor drivers), whereas the FTDI and Keyspan are much better supported in OS X (especially the Keyspan USA-19HS). Of course, you won't need that for PTT any longer with the SignaLink. Ever since you got your Mac, you've had troubles with the USB.lots of time spent looking for documentation on what is a standard USB port; something I can't figure out, but I hope you got it working.
I am considering buying the Signalink USB interface. My first question is will that alone will allow basic FLdigi operation with my equipment? Do I *need* to use rig control (e.g. Via CI-V cable)?
And CODEC is selected. Are you using an external modem/sound card? I am using the SignalLink USB, and it installs a driver in the Mac for the USB ports. When you look at System Preferecees/Sound, you need to select the driver. For the SignalLink it is called USB AUDIO CODEC. First, what is the Signalink USB? The Signalink USB is in fact an external USB monophonic sound card and radio interface. It plugs into a USB2.0 port on a computer. It will not work properly on USB1.1 ports. It is powered from the 5 volt buss in the USB port.
When I finally found that a local dealer, had them in stock, I immediately ordered one, and got it two days later. When I unpacked it I found a ready confectioned cable for connection to the 8-pin microphone plug on the FT-847 and a 3.5mm stereo jack cable for connection to the Phone jack (1/4' jack on the 847), quick connection to the radio followed by an equally quick boot of Ubuntu - which recognized the new SoundCard automatically!
Cables are available for virtually all radios that have a Data or Accessory Port that uses a 5-pin DIN, 8-pin DIN, 13-pin DIN, or 6-pin mini-DIN connector, and a special cable is also available for the Elecraft K3/KX2/KX3. Cables are also available for virtually all radios that use a 4-pin round, 8-pin round, RJ-11, and RJ-45 mic connector. HT cables are available for most Yaesu, Kenwood, Baofeng, Wouxun and similar HTs, and a An un-terminated cable is available for radios that uses a different type of connector (build your own cable). All Data Port, Accessory Port, un-terminated, and HT radio cables are approximately three feet in length. Mic cables are approximately eighteen inches in length. • USB Cable - This cable connects the SignaLink USB to your computer. It is approximately six feet in length.
A slower computer might also work fine, but a faster one might be required depending on the demands of your communication program(s). When using multiple SignaLink USBs on one computer, each SignaLink will be given a sequential number in addition to the normal 'USB Audio Codec', or 'Microphone - USB Audio Codec' description. To avoid complicating things any more than necessary, we suggest that you install and configure each SignaLink USB one at a time, and then confirm that each unit is working before plugging in additional units. Note that the sound card numbering assignments, sound card selection in both Windows and the communication program(s), and the sound card volume levels may change if you unplug any of the USB cables. The SignaLink USB will work with virtually any Ham or commercial transceiver that has a Data Port, Accessory Port, or Mic jack.
Is there any other area I should be in on the MAC? The OUTPUT is set to the computer speakers. Right now it's working (transmit is a little low) but I can't adjust the volume level.
• Jumper Wires - These are used to configure the SignaLink for your specific radio. No soldering is required - The jumpers simply push into a socket on the circuit board!
Each jumper wire simply presses into the socket on the SignaLink board (see picture left) and can easily be removed and reused if needed. Without these detachable cables and jumper wires, you would most likely be stuck using the SignaLink with only one radio, and you'd have to purchase an entirely new unit if you bought a new radio or simply wanted to use a different one. Unless you are planning on 'Receive Only' operation using External Speaker or Headphone audio, you will need to install the jumpers inside your SignaLink.

I run the Icom 718, 706MKIIg and the 703(qrp). For CAT/CI-V control I would recommend looking at the Radio Shack USB Scanner programming Cable. About $35.00. Yes you could order one off of eBay for a lot cheaper BUT there has been some issues with the USB to Serial Cables having Fake Chipsets (Clones) in them specifically the Prolific Chipsets. Besides if you get the one from Radio Shack and it's DOA its easier to get replaced. I use the older one which has the Circuitry encased in the Clear Orange Case. These Cables use the FTDI chipsets which seem to be better than the Prolific.
