Sign in for text now. I bought this driver off the rack in '04. 10.5, M.A.S.2 65 stiff shaft. I am 60, shoot high 70's to low 90's, swing speed 100-105. I am long for my age and skill level (250-280 yds). My 150 club is an 8-iron.

I bought this club as a newbie to golf and sadly paid over $200 for it (it retailed for more but was a superseded model when I got it). I don't think I was ripped off, but it wasn't good value. Firstly I have to say I have hit some very good shots with this club. However, the way the face addresses the ball can make it hard to align the club IMO. There are doubtless some issues with my swing as I'm just a hacker, but I have a tendency to slice with this club, more so than with irons. It's not just me either, my 2 playing buddies (one of whom shoots in the 80s) use variations of this club and both have slice/draw issues with it.

Overall Review I actually tried this at Nevada Bobs in Dundee and not in the open air where the general publis could be frightened by my swing, It had a pro-stiff shaft fitted but even with this the swing speed still showed 131mph.the fastest they had ever seen!! I think the shaft was so like a stiff poker that it caught up with me and I hit it the best I have hit any driver.the computer said 280 on the fly!! I didn't by it even with a discount because I prefer to try on a driving range to see if the claims made by the seller are the real deal.still Ienjoyed scaring the salesman and my 2 handicap mate.Im a 16!!!!!!!

Check the R&A website for more details. I have tried out the Taylor Made R580 XD driver and the R7Draw. I have to say that the striking force that comes from both clubs is awesome.!!! I currently own a Mizuno Mp001 and it goes vey nicely. The TaylorMade R580 XD combines forgivenss and fantastic flight and accuracy.

Excellent price off of Ebay, well worth what I paid. Got this with the factory installed Penley stiff shaft. First, let's describe my game - think of the 3 Stooges playing golf, I'm Curley, but I don't wreck the 'nice lawn' ('See, the pieces are getting smaller.' ) My uncle in Tampa convinced me to get rid of my little wussy driver I was using and try this cannon. I have THE ugliest swing in the world (pros have turned to alcohol and drugs after trying to teach me) but slowing my swing down really does translate to greater distance here.

I use regular shafts and hit it 280-300 yards The upshot is, if you can find one new cheap, DO IT! Change the shaft and you will think god himself put his hand on your shoulder and pushed the ball out there.I recommend this club for anybody really. I remember that Mike Weir was still using his well after R7s came out. If I didnt keep cracking them I wouldnt have bought an R9 and I would give it a 5 stars instead of 4. For a club which you can pick up no on ebay for around 50-$100 depeneding on where you live, you are really only getting that kind of value. The xd, i found like alot of taylor made drivers, leaks distance. I get a really piercing high trajectory which is almost impossible to control if there is any sort of wind.

I've always been a 'long' hitter but easily drove the ball well over 250 consistently, but my nasty slice (or from time to time really nice straight drive) has been replaced by a MASSIVE hook - talk about bending around the foul pole. I've checked to be sure this is not built with a draw, so I guess it's still just the dummy holding the club. If I ever do get it straightened out though, this club will be a honey!!! Excellent price off of Ebay, well worth what I paid. I continue to be amazed at the long-term performance of this driver. Mine had an Aldila NV-65 shaft. It's a great club.
