Now I am forced to go find a stand-alone copy of 2013 to install, basically getting no value from my Office 365 subscription, which I had just renewed. I've been using some version of Microsoft Office since 1999 and every year that I've upgraded it has gotten a little better. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is how Publisher has changed in that when you want a graphic image you get sent to Bing images so many of the images can't be used since they're copy-written. I'm not a big fan of the rent me for a year at $99.00 plus tax.
All versions of Office, whether on a Windows PC or a Mac, look and work alike, and also resemble the Office you experience on the Web and on tablets. This is good news for Mac users, because the new interface and features, as well as the improved performance of Outlook, make it a considerably better suite. And it should also mean that Office on the Mac will no longer trail behind its Windows counterpart, and will be updated on a similar schedule.
You have a choice of opening or saving files either to the cloud-based OneDrive or on your Mac's hard disk. It took me a little while to get used to the somewhat confusing OneDrive interface. When you choose File / Open or press Command-O, you see a screen that is clearly designed to be like every other Office screen, with the same colors, size of icons and so on. You then have the choice of opening a file on OneDrive or on your local Mac. If you choose to open a OneDrive file, you get the same Office-like interface. However, if you choose a Mac-based file, you’re switched to the Mac’s Finder interface and have to use it navigate to files stored on your local version of OneDrive.

I’m ready to switch from Apple Pages to Microsoft Word and hear that Microsoft just released an entirely new and updated Office 2016. What’s the easy way to upgrade? You’re correct that Microsoft has just released a completely new, completely redesigned version of its flagship product, Microsoft Office, for Mac systems. In fact, it’s a cross-platform release and is new for Windows systems too, along with iPad, Android and Windows tablet support and a completely different way of working with OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage system (that competes with iCloud, Apple’s cloud storage system). The entire Microsoft Office 2016 suite for Mac includes Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Word and Outlook, though it sounds like you might only be looking for the word processor piece of that (Microsoft Word). Unlike previous years when it was priced at almost $500 for the entire suite of programs, Microsoft’s apparently rethought its pricing strategy too and you can get everything for $150 in the Home & Student download edition through, for example,.

I thought it was just my computer having the problem. I have mid 2012 MBP with 500 GB HDD and 8 GB ram. Word bounces at least 2 dozen times before it launches. Excel opens a little quicker and Outlook was running good until the last two updates. My youngest son uses Office 365 on a Surface Book Pro and has the same slowness at launch. Oddly, another sons 4 year old Dell laptop with 8 GB ram, has no problem launching or running the program.
